Brides Room (Second Floor)

The Bride’s Room was originally known as the Flame Room, reserved for overnight guests during the Barker family’s residency. After 1925, it was dubbed the Bishop’s Room in honor of a distinguished clergyman houseguest at the occasion of Catherine Barker’s Papal award ceremony: the Bishop had traveled from Chicago to preside over a mass at St. Mary’s Church and present Catherine Barker and two fellow citizens with the highly esteemed award. Notably, during Purdue University's utilization of the mansion as a satellite campus from 1948 to 1968, this room functioned as the ladies' lounge. Today, the room serves as a space for brides and their bridal party to prepare for weddings held here at the mansion.

As the room's functions evolved over time, the furniture within does not belong to the Barker collection. Nonetheless, it maintains its historical charm with a bridal flair, showcasing notable artifacts such as Katherine Fitzgerald Barker's wedding portrait and a framed fan that belonged to her.
